Grupo Fuertes, a Spanish meat processing company, acquired Nutrave, a vertically integrated poultry producer, to strengthen its position in the Spanish chicken market and counter foreign consolidation in the industry. The acquisition adds over 700,000 chickens per week to Grupo Fuertes' production capacity.

  • Grupo Fuertes acquired Nutrave, a vertically integrated poultry company based in Bargas, Toledo province, Spain
  • The deal is Grupo Fuertes' second poultry acquisition in 2026, following purchases of Paasa and Tolvasa earlier in the year
  • Combined 2026 acquisitions add more than 700,000 chickens per week to Grupo Fuertes' production capacity
  • Nutrave controls its entire production chain, including feed manufacturing, bird hatching, and processing, ensuring quality and food safety standards
  • The acquisition represents Grupo Fuertes' strategic response to foreign consolidation in Spain's chicken industry, keeping production in Spanish family business hands

Grupo Fuertes, the Spanish parent company of meat processor ElPozo Alimentación, has acquired Nutrave, a vertically integrated poultry company based in Bargas, in Spain's Toledo province.

The deal is the family-owned group's second poultry acquisition of 2026 and is meant to strengthen its position in the Spanish chicken market. Together, the 2026 purchases add more than 700,000 chickens per week to Grupo Fuertes' production, according to a LinkedIn post by Juan Cánovas Fuertes, deputy general director of ElPozo Alimentación and a board member of Grupo Fuertes.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

“This new acquisition reinforces the commitment that we have at Grupo Fuertes to chicken as a meat protein of the future,” Cánovas Fuertes wrote.

Nutrave specializes in full-cycle poultry processing, focusing mainly on chicken and hen meat and a range of further-processed products. The company controls its entire production chain, manufacturing its own feed and hatching and processing its own birds. Grupo Fuertes said that integration model underpins Nutrave's standards for quality, food safety and animal welfare.

Nutrave's three founding families will keep a stake in the company and will work alongside the Fuertes family during the transition. Grupo Fuertes plans to retain Nutrave's entire workforce and follow a management model similar to the one used in its earlier poultry deals.

The purchase follows Grupo Fuertes' entry into the chicken business earlier in 2026 with the acquisition of Paasa and Tolvasa, two family-owned chicken breeding and processing companies in Albacete, Spain.

The group framed both deals as a response to foreign consolidation in Spain's chicken industry. Large international companies have bought Spanish chicken producers in recent months, and three of the country's 10 largest operators are now foreign-owned, the company said.

Grupo Fuertes said its two 2026 acquisitions are “an important counterweight” that keeps production in the hands of Spanish family businesses.

Grupo Fuertes is headquartered in Alhama de Murcia, Spain.
