Rechecking calcium specifications for broiler feeds

Calcium should be reviewed whenever protein, energy, calcium source ingredient supply or phytase assumptions change.

Calcium is an easy nutrient to take for granted, and it has been long since we checked the values we use commercially today. Most formulas have a number, perhaps even a phytase matrix, and a safety margin. But, modern fast-growing broilers leave little room for mineral mistakes.

The question is not only how much calcium is in the diet, but how available it is, how fast it dissolves and whether it matches the bird’s calcium requirements.
