Two U.S. states have reported the first mycotoxins in corn this harvest season, but there were no additional reports of mycotoxins in winter wheat or barley in the past week, according to Neogen’s Monday Mycotoxin and Crop Report from July 30.
The first reports of aflatoxin in corn came from Texas and Kansas.
There were no additional reports of DON in winter wheat or barley. Previous reports of DON in winter wheat came from New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware, Tennessee, Virginia and Illinois. A previous report of DON in barley came from Pennsylvania.
Crop progress
Eighty percent of winter wheat is harvested, which is one point ahead of the five-year average.
Barley is 94 percent headed out, one point behind the five-year average. Eighty-one percent of barley is rated good to excellent, while 2 percent is rated poor to very poor.
Spring wheat is 96 percent headed, three points ahead of the five-year average. Seventy-nine percent of spring wheat is in good to excellent condition; 4 percent is in poor to very poor condition.
Seventy-two percent of oats are in good to excellent condition, and 7 percent is in poor to very poor condition. Twenty-four percent of oats are harvested, which is one point ahead of the five-year average.
