IPE/IFE to remain in Atlanta through 2016
The combined International Poultry Expo/International Feed Expo/American Meat Institute show will remain in Atlanta, Ga., through at least 2016, and its location after that will depend entirely on where exhibitors and attendees want to see the show located, according to the heads of the three associations that are co-locating their shows. Rumors that the show will be moving back and forth between Atlanta and Chicago are only show-floor rumors, and any decisions such as that are years in the future, they said at a press conference on January 26.

Algae may provide protein in poultry, pig feed
Marine algae may serve as a viable protein-rich supplement to animal feed for poultry and pigs, according to researchers at Cornell University who are studying the material as a possible additive or replacement for corn and soybean meal. The goal is to transform a biofuel byproduct into a commodity, which could free up thousands of acres of cropland, say the researchers.

Foreign crop farmers may help rescue US poultry profitability
Foreign crop farmers' response to a 200% increase in the price of corn is having a predictable effect on total world production. Next year, corn production outside the U.S. is likely to reach 600 MMT, a 100 MMT increase. Missouri turkey feed diet may save producers money
The Missouri Ideal Turkey Protein diet, a formula based on the exact nutrient requirements of turkeys, may save producers about $30 per ton of feed, according to Jeff Firman, a University of Missouri Extension poultry scientist. The protein-based diet, which focuses on adjusting the amino acids in the turkeys' diet, helps reduce overfeeding and brings down costs by not wasting nutrients, said Firman.

Rabobank: meat, poultry production to drop in 2012
U.S. meat and poultry production is headed for what researchers at the Rabobank International Food & Agribusiness Research and Advisory group anticipate to be a “precipitous fall” by mid-2012, according to a recently released report. The group’s “Where’s the Beef?” report notes that drought in the U.S. is a major contributor to the production decline, but finds that global meat and poultry production is in the midst of a multi-year process of adjusting to higher and more volatile feed costs. Since the U.S. is a significant exporter of meat protein, the decline will also affect world markets as well as demand for feed, including corn.
