NGFA donates $60,000 for PEDv research

The National Grain and Feed Foundation (NGFF) has contributed $60,000 to the National Pork Board (NPB) to be used to pursue research on the porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) virus that has infected swine herds in the United States.The virus has infected and killed millions of young pigs on farms of all sizes in 29 states since May 2013, as well as in four Canadian provinces since January 2014.

Biomin, Boku win Houska Prize for fumonisin research

The Vienna-based B&C Foundation has awarded the first place in the Houska Prize to Biomin for its fumonisin-degrading enzyme FUMzyme.The Boku Vienna project – the joint Biomin-Boku mycotoxins research -- “stood out with a highly topical scientific concept” while offering “a prime example of successful cooperation between (academic) research and corporate partnership,” according to the B&C Foundation.

Scientific testing by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency(CFIA) cannot confirm a link between feed containing blood plasma and PorcineEpidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv) cases in Canada.As reported in February, the CFIA conducted abioassay study on U.S.-origin porcine blood plasma used in feed pelletsproduced by Grand Valley Fortifiers.
