Neogen reports 16 percent increase in net income
Neogen Corp.’s net income for the second quarter of its 2016 fiscal year, which ended Nov. 30, increased 16 percent to $9.07 million or $0.24 per fully diluted share, from $7.81 million, $0.21 per share, in fiscal 2015. Current year-to-date net income was $18.4 million or $0.49 per share, compared with $16.7 million, or $0.45 per share, for the same period a year ago.

FDA issues draft guidance on VFD common format
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued draft guidance for industry (GFI #233) titled, “Veterinary Feed Directive Common Format Questions and Answers” to provide animal drug sponsors who are seeking approval for use of their drug in or on animal feed as a veterinary feed directive (VFD) drug with a recommended common format for a fillable form -- called a VFD -- that can later be used by veterinarians to authorize the use of the sponsor’s drug in feed.

FDA releases final foreign supplier rule
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released its final rule for Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP) for Food for Humans and Animals. This rule is part of FDA’s implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Most importers will be required to comply with FDA’s FSVP rule in May 2017 (18 months after publication).

#tbt: European Commission steps up mycotoxin reduction
In 2009, the European Commission opened a new functional group under Regulation (EC) 1831/2003 for feed additives acting on the reduction of the contamination of feed by mycotoxins. This was the first amendment to the Feed Additive Regulation, put in place in 2003, and was an important step forward in the integrated fight against mycotoxin contamination of feed.
