Recognizing the importance of quality and safety of all Nutriad branded feed additives, the company has upgraded manufacturing and control procedures to exceed the requirements of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.
The internal Quality Management System applied by Nutriad comprises an annual review to support a Quality Assurance Manual and Organizational Chart defining job responsibilities. Production is subject to a Process Flow Chart, a Non-conformance System and a Corrective Action program. The components of the comprehensive Nutriad Quality Assurance Program conform to the company's Food Safety Plan as required by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
In pursuit of excellence, Nutriad sponsored a study in 2016 on coated sodium butyrate added to broiler feed. The results were published in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Poultry Science*. The project was conducted and certified by independent laboratories, and considered flock performance, safety and tissue residue.
Dr. Steven Moreland, VP Technical Services and Support for Nutriad Inc. in North America, stated “Using both external and independent panels with qualified experts to evaluate our product safety proves that we are fully committed.” He added “Our internal Quality Management System is applied to every batch of product in all Nutriad plants worldwide.”
Robin Bugner, Quality and Regulatory Manager for Nutriad, is fully invested in the Quality Management System and ensures that appropriate levels of operation are active in the review process to provide checks and balances. According to Ms. Bugner “When thinking about a feed business like Nutriad, we must ensure that we are following strict procedures to mirror the Food Safety Modernization Act. To comply with this legislation, Nutriad must review and qualify all of its suppliers and each of the raw materials purchased, holding both foreign and domestic suppliers to FSMA requirements.”
Traditionally, integrators and producers have selected GRAS additives on the basis of brand recognition and the results of university and field trials. Over and above these criteria, safety of products and the impact on the food chain must be considered in the purchase decision.
