The Specialty Feed Ingredients Sustainability (SFIS) ProjectConsortium, dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of livestockproduction through innovative specialty feed ingredients, has announced theresults of a yearlong study that confirms the role of Specialty FeedIngredients (SFIs) in reducing the environmental impact of livestockproduction.Launched by the International Feed Industry Federation(IFIF) and the E.U. Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and theirMixtures (FEFANA) in 2013, the overall results of the study show that the useof SFIs in animal diets reduces the consumption of basic feed ingredients.

BASF's Natugrain TS (identification number 4a7), which improves feed conversion in poultry and swine, recently received approval from the European Commission for use in fattening pigs. This approval completes the regulatory status of Natugrain TS; all relevant animal species (pigs and poultry) are now covered.
