Seminar focuses on feed mill maintenance process
At the recent 2014 Feed Mill Management Seminar inNashville, Tenn., Phil Sisler, feed mill manager with Perdue Farms, discussedthe evolution of the maintenance process throughout the years, from reactivemaintenance to integrated maintenance, and implored managers to find out wheretheir mill facilities may fall in that process. On one end of the spectrum, heexplained, is a complete lack of a PM program and on the other end ispredictive maintenance, which is ideal.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says there is anew website available to the public to report problems related to livestockanimal food.The Livestock Food Reporting portal will accept reportsabout foods made for species considered to be livestock, including but notlimited to, horses, cattle, swine, poultry and fish.

Animal feed event to address non-genetically modified product concerns
Leading organizations involved in the supply ofnon-genetically modified (GM) soy from Brazil are to host a one dayindustry event in Germany this April specifically for European animal feedproducers and users at which they will present the facts about current supplyand logistics of non-GM products from Brazil. The event follows the recent announcement by theGerman Poultry Association(ZDG) and others including the German Egg Association (BDE) that they would nolonger be using non-genetically modified soybean material due to allegedshrinking supply of GM-free material from Brazil.

New European feed legislation: mind the language
While the impact of the new European regulations on what must be declared on a compound feed label is easy to see, it may not be so obvious that their approval has also led to the establishment of a specific "compliant" terminology to be used in some of the label sections. Using other terms will result in "wrong" labeling and may be regarded as a non-compliance by European Feed Manufacturers' Federation (FEFAC), which can have consequences in terms of both time (negotiation with national authorities) and money (fines).

The Northern Crops Institute's Feed Processing Center prepares to undergo $800,000 feed mill modernization. The rehabbed mill will feature a new mixer, micro ingredient system and automated operating system. Much of the equipment was donated by the manufacturers to aid in pushing the institution's agenda to remain a leader in training global customers how to best utilize the region's crops in feed production.

WTO sets new challenges to the Russian feed industry
Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in August 2012 has seriously complicated the work of the domestic feed industry, which now has to face tough competition with foreign producers, according to the Russian Union of Feed Producers.
