Cargill completes animal feed mill expansion in Vietnam
Cargill’s animal nutrition business recently celebrated the completion of its $20 million animal feed mill expansion in Vietnam’s Binh Dinh province. One of eight compound feed mills in Vietnam, the expanded facility will enable Cargill to meet growing demand for high-performing feed from its customers in the country.

Megamix Company plans to complete construction on a large feed premix plant in Lipetsk Oblast, Russia, by the end of 2014. Total investment in the project is estimated at RUB1 billion (US$30 million).

Fire damages Oregon pellet feed mill, warehouse
A May 7 fire on the property of Smucker Pelleting and RS Feed near Harrisburg, Oregon, heavily damaged a pellet feed mill and warehouse, according to a report.Spontaneous combustion is suspected as the fire’s cause, although an investigation was still underway.

Kemin executive named to AFIA board of directors
Kristi Krafka, vice president of regulatory affairs for the animal nutrition and health division of Kemin in North America, has been appointed to the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) board of directors.Krafka was instrumental in Kemin achieving the prestigious Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognition at its Des Moines, Iowa, manufacturing facility in February 2013.

USDA allocates $48 million to crop pest, disease management
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) allocated $48.1 million, provided by the Agricultural Act of 2014 (the 2014 farm bill), to projects across the country that will help to prevent the introduction or spread of plant and crop pests and diseases that threaten America's agriculture economy and the environment. Each year, invasive pests cost the U.S. economy approximately $120 billion by damaging crops, requiring costly response efforts and closing foreign markets to U.S. products from infested areas.
