Walmart leaves eggs out of its annual Easter meal kit

The grocery chain said this year’s meal kit can feed a table of eight for less than US$6 per person.

Walmart’s annual Easter meal kit does not include eggs this year, as it has in the past.

Last year, the grocer’s holiday meal kit included all the ingredients for deviled eggs, amongst other things. Instead, the kit this year includes boneless spiral cut brown sugar ham, one navel orange, whole russet potatoes, fresh asparagus and green beans, mac and cheese, fresh corn on the cob, rolls and crème cake.

The meal kit is available now through April 20 and can serve eight people for approximately US$43. Consumers can purchase the kit on Walmart’s shoppable lists section of its website.

“We’re proud to uphold our Every Day Low Price promise while also delivering extra special savings for customers’ must-win holiday celebrations, like we’re doing with our Easter meal priced even lower than last year,” stated Walmart U.S. Executive Vice President John Laney.

As of April 1, 2025, the grocer has not put any purchase limits on eggs in its stores, like other companies, due to the shortages caused by tight supply and high demand.

While the chain does not specify why eggs are not incorporated into the meal, one can assume it is due to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) increasing egg prices to historic highs. Even though egg prices have started to fall over the last month, they often trend upward this time of year due to the Easter holiday.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Economic Research Service (ERS) March 2025 Food Price Outlook, egg prices were 58.8 percent higher in February 2025, compared to the same month in 2024. Additionally, the agency predicts that egg prices will increase 57.6 percent in 2025.

The meal looks good, I can’t lie. However, I have a hard time imagining an Easter Sunday meal that doesn’t include deviled eggs.
