Announces new senior appointments

Protix, the leading company in insect ingredients for feed and food, has appointed Barry Greyling as corporate treasurer ahead of a planned major scale-up of its business. Barry joins recent hires Jeroen van der Staay, chief growth officer and Anneke van de Geijn, chief commercial officer, as the company expands its team and gears up for exponential international growth.

Protix is unique in supplying insect ingredients on an industrial scale to pet food, livestock feed, aquafeed, food and fertilizer manufacturers. The company harnesses the black soldier fly’s remarkable ability to turn low-grade food waste into valuable nutrients such as proteins and fats. Protix’s high-quality ingredients are used by global A-brands and industrial manufacturers to bring healthy and more sustainable feed and food products to the world.

There is strong momentum for insect ingredients. With the current pressure on the global availability of raw materials on the one hand and the need to produce more sustainably on the other, Protix’s local sourcing and in-house circular production improve food and feed security. Based on a solid and exciting roll-out plan, the company is now investing in strong management to bring the future closer.

Greyling has over 15 years’ international experience in corporate finance, banking and treasury including with one of the ‘big four’ professional services firms. He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments, has a diploma in management accounting  from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and is a certified professional scrum master. Jeroen van der Staay is a global business leader with extensive experience as a strategy consultant, investment manager, corporate business developer, marketing director and commercial director, across four continents and a wide variety of industries. Anneke van de Geijn is a business executive with an impressive track record in B2B and B2C Food, including roles as global marketing director, global sales director and commercial director of large divisions within a major multinational.

They join Protix’s passionate team of experts that also includes Bas Jürgens [Chief Operations Officer], Stijn Harms [Director Projects & Engineering], and Eric Schmitt [R&D Director] who have been fully committed to Protix for many years and provide a solid foundation in operations and R&D. Together, the team aims to further build the insect sector globally, with new plants set to open within the next years.

Kees Aarts, founder and CEO of Protix, says: “As the only supplier of commercial products in a substantial volume, Protix has forged strong relationships with feed and food manufacturers. Since the opening of our large-scale production facility in 2019, we have been working closely with our customers to understand their needs and are now at the exciting stage of further ramping up our production to meet increasing demand. Moreover, we were able to further develop high-tech solutions to provide a natural source of protein with a low carbon footprint and generate know-how on how to make production even more sustainable and efficient. We are now in a unique position to take a big leap forward and look forward to the contributions of Barry, Jeroen and Anneke to the next milestones on our exciting journey to bring the food system back into balance with nature.”
