Alltech is proud to announce that Dr. Sebastian Mejia Turcios has joined its U.S. beef team as an on-farm support beef specialist. In this role, Dr. Mejia Turcios will focus on bilingual training, coaching and developing employee retention strategies for workers on feedlots and cattle ranches across the U.S.
Dr. Mejia Turcios, originally from Honduras, has been involved in agriculture from an early age, with a particular passion for livestock that has shaped his educational path. He holds a bachelor’s degree in agronomy from EARTH University in Costa Rica, a master’s degree in animal science from Texas Tech University and recently earned his Ph.D. in June 2024 from the University of California, Davis, under the mentorship of Dr. Frank Mitloehner, a world-renowned animal agriculture and air quality expert.
As a strong advocate for sustainability in the beef industry, Dr. Mejia Turcios is committed to sharing his research and expertise with producers, educators and industry stakeholders. His work emphasizes sustainability and the practical application of research to improve beef cattle operations.
In his new position at Alltech, Dr. Mejia Turcios will be hands-on, spending time on feedlots and ranches to offer tailored training in both English and Spanish. His focus will be on ensuring protocols are in place, coaching employees on best practices and developing leadership skills. Additionally, he will assist farm and ranch owners in crafting employee retention strategies, helping to improve workforce stability. His deep understanding of beef sustainability, developed during his Ph.D. studies, will play a key role in advancing Alltech’s sustainability initiatives through research and education.
“We are delighted to welcome Sebastian to the Alltech On-Farm Support team as a resource for beef producers,” said Jorge Delgado, Alltech’s on-farm dairy training, talent development and retention program specialist. “His knowledge and experience will enable our team to deliver even more value for our customers.”
