Cherkizovo harvest up for all major grains in 2019

However, its sales volumes declined when compared with 2018

Russian agrifood company Cherkizovo Group harvested more grains in 2019 than it did during the previous year. However, the amount of grains sold in 2019 was down on a year-over-year basis.

Grains harvested in 2019

Cherkizovo, in announcing its year-end operating results for 2019, said it harvested 592,970 metric tons of grain in 2019, a 24% improvement over its 2018 harvest.

The crop to see the biggest increase in metric tonnage harvested was corn. The 99,310 metric tons harvested in 2019 represented a 62% growth when compared with 2018.

For both years, Cherkizovo harvested more wheat than any other crop. Its 2019 figure of 320,600 metric tons was a 14% improvement when compared with 2018.

The Russian company also saw meaningful growth in the amount of soybeans, sunflowers and barley harvested. Its soybean harvest was up 36% with 11,170 metric tons in 2019, while its sunflower harvest grew by 30% to 84,420 metric tons, and its barley harvest improved by 40% to 27,760 metric tons in 2019.

Grains sold in 2019

While the amount of grains harvested by Cherkizovo rose in 2019, the amount of grains sold dropped by 25%.

Barley was the only crop that sold more in 2019. The 37,930 metric tons sold grew 22% on a year-over-year basis.

The company held on to more of its soybeans in 2019, selling 73% less than it did in 2019. Its sales of corn, wheat and sunflowers dropped by 45%, 21% and 3%, respectively. The company sold 94,580 metric tons of corn, 277,120 metric tons of wheat, and 83,410 metric tons of sunflowers in 2019.

Cherkizovo operates 12 grain elevators. According to Feed Strategy’s Top Feed Companies database, it had nine feed mills in 2018, which produced 1.8 million metric tons of feed.

At the same time Cherkizovo which, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies database, is the largest poultry producer in Russia, released its annual figures related to its grain operations, it revealed that its annual chicken, turkey, pork sales volumes rose in 2019.
