Government will invest in companies to adopt clean technology

Two feed and grain companies will receive federal support from the government of Canada to adopt clean technology.

Under the Adoption Stream of the Agricultural Clean Technology (ACT) Program, these companies, along with two others, will allow producers to enhance their competitiveness and reduce their carbon footprint.

Entosystem Inc. in Drummondville will receive up to CAD2 million (US$1.47 million) to purchase and install state-of-the-art, energy-efficient technologies and equipment to streamline production of insect-based products to be used in animal feed and fertilizer.

2173-0130 Québec Inc. (Ferme Delorme) in Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville will receive up to CAD376,860 to install a new grain dryer to assist with field crop production.

“Our goal is to help Canadian producers innovate and adopt clean technologies,” said Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. “This new Agricultural Clean Technology Program investment aims to reduce the sector’s greenhouse gas emissions and leverage technology to be more resilient to climate change.”

In addition to the Adoption Stream, the ACT – Research and Innovation Stream supports pre-market innovation including research, development, demonstration and commercialization of agricultural clean technologies. This stream is open for intake. Through the recently expanded ACT Program, it is anticipated that greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by up to 0.8 megaton each year as a result of fuel switching and decreased fuel consumption.
