Purchasing & Ingredient Suppliers Conference was scheduled for next week in Seattle

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) has canceled its 2020 Purchasing & Ingredient Suppliers Conference (PISC) and all associated committee and board meetings. The events were scheduled to take place March 16-19 in Seattle, where numerous cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported and at least 17 deaths from the disease have occurred.

“Over the past several days, we have been closely monitoring the guidance from state and federal health authorities regarding traveling to areas where the coronavirus is spreading,” AFIA said in an email to registered attendees. “Please note that we did not make this decision lightly, but after close consultation with our members and partners, we felt it was the right thing to do to protect the health and safety of our attendees and staff.”

AFIA said PISC will not be rescheduled, but that it is exploring holding webinars for PISC registrants with key PISC speakers.

Next year’s PISC is scheduled to be held March 9-11, 2021, in Orlando, Florida.

Other events postponed

AFIA’s decision comes after other industry events have been canceled or postponed due to the virus.

VICTAM and Animal Health and Nutrition Asia 2020 in Bangkok was postponed to July 9-11, 2020, and VIV MEA 2020 was rescheduled for August 31 to September 2, 2020, in Abu Dhabi.

In their announcements, the management teams from the VICTAM Corporation and VIV worldwide cited situation report #39 from the World Health Organization on COVID-19 published on February 28 in which the risk assessment for the regional level as well as the global level changed from high to very high.
