Reuters' Shi Bu, Ella Cao and Liz Lee reported that Chinese officials have committed to stabilizing grain production and expanding soybean oilseed capacity to reduce imports and ensure food security, according to readouts from recent agricultural policy meetings. The Central Rural Work Conference emphasized improving grain varieties, promoting high-quality farmland, and integrating advanced seeds, machinery, and farming methods. Agriculture ministry officials also called for higher yields and increased self-sufficiency in soybean oilseeds. China’s total grain output reached a record 714.9 million tons in 2025, up 1.2% from 2024, amid efforts to boost farmers’ incomes and support rural employment.
