Geel hired to become next CFO of Astral Foods

He will succeed Dries Ferreira, who will leave the company in early 2026.

Gideon Johannes "Johan" Geel has been selected to fill the roles of executive director and chief financial officer (CFO) of Astral Foods, effective March 1.

Geel will assume the CFO position, following the resignation of Johan Andries Ignatius "Dries" Ferreira, effective January 31, 2026.

Presently, Geel serves as the CFO of AFGRI Group Holdings, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Geel, a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA), is an accomplished finance executive who most recently served as CFO at AFGRI Limited, a diversified agriculture group. He brings extensive expertise across a broad agricultural and processing value chain, including fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), retail, manufacturing, agro-processing, grain management, trading, financing, logistics/distribution and agricultural production, the South African company stated in a securities filing.

“He has a deep understanding of financial management and strategy in highly complex and diverse business environments. The board welcomes Johan and is looking forward to working with him. His background and experience in senior operational and financial leadership positions will play a key role in the future of the company, and provide a solid pillar of support to the CEO,” the securities filing read.

Astral Foods, a public company, trades on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

It is the largest poultry producer in Africa and the 39th largest in the world, according to the WATTPoultry.com Top Companies Database, having slaughtered 280.8 broilers in 2024. As a feed producer, Astral Foods ranks 110th globally, producing 1.3 million metric tons of feed annually.
