Cargill bars Syngenta GMO corn at US mills
Cargill has added itself to the list of companies rejecting a type of Syngenta corn, Viptera, genetically modified to protect the crop against insect damage. Another company, Bunge North America, is currently being sued by Syngenta for refusing to accept the corn.

Alltech establishes fully owned Mexico office
Animal health and nutrition company Alltech opened its first wholly owned office in Mexico in an effort to move closer to its local customers, according to the company. “Although Alltech has had a strong presence in Mexico for more than 25 years...we look forward now to working directly with our local customers in the region,” said Dr. Guilherme Minozzo, Alltech’s vice president of Latin America.

Provimi reports increased feed margins
Having completed the disposal of its petfood business in June, Provimi has presented the first half-year financial results as a group focused entirely on commercial-animal nutrition. These results showed an 11.5% increase in revenue to €871 million from €782 million for January through June 2010, while the gross margin climbed 5.2% to €237 million.

Victam Europe highlights opportunities for European feed producers
The past year was the year of living dangerously, said Patrick Vanden Avenne, president of FEFAC, on the opening day of Victam Europe, taking place from May 3-5, at its new location in Cologne, Germany. Vanden Avenne noted that feed prices had been volatile, and margins and profitability difficult, and he added that the feed industry’s customers had found it hard to pass on costs.

Quality Technology Calsporin supply unaffected by Japan disaster
Quality Technology International Inc., the North American distributor of direct-fed microbial Calsporin has released a statement assuring North American clients that there are no concerns about providing continuous supplies of Calsporin to the poultry and animal markets. "We have, at a minimum, a six-month supply of Calsporin in the United States," said Troy Lohrmann, QTI vice president.

US sorghum being tested as poultry feed in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia is looking into less expensive alternate grains to use as poultry feed, and the latest possibility to be tested is U.S. sorghum. The Sorghum Checkoff and U.S. Grains Council recently sent 60 tons of sorghum to Saudi Arabia for commercial poultry feeding trials.

Evonik Industries expanding North American lysine operation
Evonik Industries has begun expansion of its North American lysine operation, which will be realized in two steps during 2011. The first phase of the expansion at its Blair, Neb., production facility has begun, with the basic engineering for a second phase expansion already approved by the company's board of management.

Kemin Industries Inc. has expanded into the veterinary market with the launch of a new division, Kemin Vet Innovations, set to provide products, solutions and services for the veterinary community serving the livestock, poultry, equine and companion animal markets worldwide. The division will be led by Andrew Yersin, former director of research and development for Kemin AgriFoods North America.
