Schothorst Feed Research chooses Ruminix Software to build its own system

The collaboration aims to make SFR’s advanced expertise in dairy nutrition more accessible to feed producers worldwide, enabling data-driven decisions for optimal dairy production.

Schothorst Feed Research (SFR) has chosen A-Systems’ Ruminix software to implement its cutting-edge E-dairy rationing model. This collaboration aims to make SFR’s advanced expertise in dairy nutrition more accessible to feed producers worldwide, enabling data-driven decisions for optimal dairy production.

SFR has developed a proprietary rationing model that predicts milk yield based on specific feed inputs, allowing producers to optimize nutrition and production efficiency. However, prior to adopting Ruminix, SFR faced challenges in offering this model to a broader customer base due to the complexities of linking existing software systems with its internal nutrient calculation matrix, MySFR.

SFR turned to Ruminix to overcome these challenges and bring its E-dairy model to the market.

“We were looking for a ration calculation program in which we could build our system. It needed to be easy to use, cost effective and capable of showcasing the value of SFR’s expertise to potential customers,” said Dr. Wilfried van Straalen, senior researcher and consultant ruminants at Schothorst Feed Research.

Working closely with A-Systems, SFR successfully integrated its E-dairy model, along with the E-beef version, into the software. The platform now offers feed producers a user-friendly interface to calculate rations, predict milk yield, and visualize key performance indicators. With Ruminix, SFR can now provide its customers with licenses to access the software, enhancing its outreach, particularly in international markets.

“The program is not only easy to use but also demonstrates how our knowledge can be applied to practical farm rationing. It’s an excellent tool for fostering long-term collaborations with feed producers,” van Straalen said.

Additionally, Ruminix offers flexibility for future uses, such as conducting experimental calculations, further solidifying its role as a cornerstone of SFR’s research and client services.
