De Heus launches phase two of Vietnam aqua feed factory
De Heus is opening the US$8 million expansion of its aqua feed factory in Vinh Long, Vietnam, which will increase the factory's capacity from 30,000 tons a year to 100,000 tons a year and help strengthen the company's position in the aqua feed market. The upgrade will serve the growing aquaculture market in the Mekong Delta and produce feeds for pangasius, tilapia, snake head fish and fingerling, according to De Heus.

Royal DSM, a global life sciences and materials sciences company, has completed the acquisition of Tortuga Companhia Zootécnica Agrária, a nutritional supplements company with a focus on pasture raised beef and dairy cattle, for a total enterprise value of about €440 million (US$575.8 million). The acquisition was announced in August 2012.

Cargill’s third-quarter profit falls 42 percent
Cargill's fiscal third-quarter net income, which the company said was hurt by higher feed costs for its meat processing businesses, fell 42 percent, according to the quarterly report released on April 9. For the quarter ended February 28, the agribusiness company earned $445 million, down from $766 million in the same period in 2012.

International agriculture firm H.J. Baker & Bro. Inc. has announced it has purchased Rumiphos Industria e Comercio de Sal Mineral e Racoes located in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The firm has also acquired Mineral Fanton Industrial e Comercio Ltda., located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a producer of free choice minerals for beef cattle, and feed for cattle, horses and sheep.
