Germany records first foot-and-mouth disease cases since 1988

The cause of death of three water buffaloes in the eastern state of Brandenburg this week has been identified as foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).

For the first time in 36 years, cases of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) have been reported in Germany.

Out of a non-commercial herd of 14 water buffaloes, three animals died last week, according to the official notification to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
