EU legislation calls for reduction in biofuel production
The European Union took a step toward reducing the mandate for biofuel usage from 10 percent to 5.5 percent by the year 2020. In a 43-21 vote on July 11, the European Parliament's environmental committee passed the legislation, which would in turn free up more oilseeds and grains for livestock and poultry feed use, as well as make less dried distillers' grains with solubles available.

Morocco lifts restrictions on feed wheat imports
British Cereal Exports, the export hand of the United Kingdom's Home Grown Cereal Authority, has been working with Moroccan government officials to lift its restrictions on feed wheat imports, opening up a new potential market worth an estimated UK$9.6 million a year. The decision comes as the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture and the state buying agency ONICL have confirmed that the restrictions on feed wheat imports have been lifted, allowing imports to meet compounders' annual demand of 60,000 tons.

InVivo Animal Nutrition inaugurates Indonesia feed mill
France-based InVivo Animal Nutrition & Health, a global producer of compound feed, premixes and feed additives, as well as a provider of lab analysis services, inaugurated its newest feed mill in Indonesia on June 20. The $15-million, 125,000-metric-ton feed mill is the group's fifth to open in the first half of 2013, according to the company, joining two compound feed plants in Brazil, one pet food plant in Mexico and one compound feed plant in Vietnam.

The World Dairy Expo invites dairy producers and industry professionals from around the globe to experience the “Center of the Dairy Universe” on October 1 through October 5, 2013, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis. Weather conditions have slowed the 2013 planting season, but the United States Department of Agriculture is still expecting a record corn harvest. According to the figures released June 12 in the agency's World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, the 2013 forecast calls for just more than 14 billion bushels havested.
