Victam Asia 2014, again co-located with FIAAP and GRAPAS Asia, will bring members of the animal feed industry together for what show organizers say is set to be the largest show yet. The show, April 8-10, will be located in one hall at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) in Bangkok. European organic animal feed manufacturers face new regulations in 2012
European manufacturers of organic feeds for poultry already occupy a rather small niche market, but they fear it may not exist at all starting in 2012, unless the European Union regulators come to their rescue. The legal background to this problem was spelled out by Commission Regulation number 889/2008, which set detailed rules for implementing previous Regulation 834/2007 about organic production in European Union countries. The ruling made plain that a small percentage of non-organic ingredients would be permitted in organic animal feeds until 31 December 2011.

Proposed VFD rule: Business as usual for well-managed producers
The FDA released its proposed amendments to the VFD regulation, which aims to phase out the use of antibiotics for production purposes. Luckily, for well-managed animal production operations, the shift of medically important antibiotics from over-the-counter availability to VFD status, which requires veterinary oversight, should not have much impact on business. The challenge: Finding the veterinarians to write prescriptions when these drugs are needed for therapeutic purposes.

Cobb-Vantress to open Kentucky feed mill
Cobb-Vantress Inc. is constructing a new feed mill in Albany in south central Kentucky, to supply its expanding operations in both Kentucky and Tennessee. The mill, projected to cost US$15 million, is the latest investment in a region where Cobb has invested more than $36 million over the past three years including a new hatchery at Lafayette, Tenn., and a new pedigree research and development complex at Deer Lodge, Tenn.
