Every year, Feed Management’s sister publication Feed International compiles a list of the World’s Top Feed Companies. In 2016, 100 animal feed manufacturers worldwide met or exceeded 1 million metric tons of compound feed production. The ranking are derived from WATTAgNet.com’s exclusive Top Companies database, which features market intelligence gathered by WATT Global Media’s research team. This annual report tracks the previous calendar year’s compound feed volumes for many of the major players in world animal protein production.
Last year, 11 U.S. feed companies made the cut.
Compared to last year’s Top U.S. Feed Companies report, there were several major changes. For example, animal health and nutrition supplier Alltech, which ventured into compound feed production through the acquisition of two of last year’s Top Companies, Ridley Inc. and Masterfeeds, as well as Dutch aquafeed producer Coppens in 2016, made its official debut on the Top Feed Companies listing. It now ranks as the fourth largest feed producer in the United States.
Looking ahead to next year’s report, with the recent acquisition of Southern States Cooperatives feed business, the ranking will lose one player as Cargill will draw even further ahead in terms of its global feed volumes.
