House of Raeford Farms has added storage capacity and efficiency to its feed mill complex in Rose Hill, North Carolina.

“The facility is fully automated with the latest Allen Bradley PLC technology,” Michael Newton, director of corporate feed mill operations for House of Raeford Farms told the Duplin Journal. “The use of VFDs (variable frequency drives) on critical equipment provides flexibility throughout the operation. All equipment is rated for high-speed conveyance.”

The upgrades bring the facility’s storage capacity to 2.8 million bushels, allowing the company to service growers within a 50-mile radius across six counties: Wayne, Lenoir, Jones, Onslow, Pender, Sampson and Duplin.

“The increased storage capacity in this region will allow (farmers) to get their crops out of the field in a timely manner and prevent spoilage,” Dave Witter, manager of corporate communications and sustainability for House of Raeford, told the Duplin Journal.

The new facility is located adjacent to the existing feed mill located on U.S. Highway 117 in Rose Hill and is operational. Phase 2 of the project is under construction and will provide an additional 1 million bushels of storage.
