The Daily Herald's Steve Zalusky reported that Mount Prospect, Illinois, has reached a confidential interim agreement with Prestige Feed Products following complaints from neighbors about noxious odors. Announced in a joint statement, the agreement also involves the City of Des Plaines and outlines specific operational measures.
Under the agreement, Prestige will conduct random odor testing, halting operations if odor levels exceed established standards. The company is restricted to operating its machinery from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., with a warmup period starting at 5:30 p.m. and a cooldown period ending at 6:30 a.m.
This development occurs amid ongoing litigation, with Prestige suing the village since May 2023. The lawsuit claims the village is attempting to unlawfully revoke the company’s business license due to public nuisance complaints regarding odors.
Despite Prestige’s investments in odor remediation and claims that studies show compliance with village codes, the village contends that the facility causes a nuisance. The interim agreement aims to protect the interests of both parties while a trial is scheduled for March 2025. It does not constitute a settlement or admission of any claims.
