Selenium may be a key ingredient to producing healthier meatand lowering animal cholesterol levels according to researchers at theUniversity of SĂŁo Paulo (USP) in Brazil. The study aimed to determine theeffects of canola oil as a fat source when combined with the antioxidantsvitamin E and selenium, as well as determine the metabolic lipid oxidation andnutritional value of the beef.

The Specialty Feed Ingredients Sustainability (SFIS) ProjectConsortium, dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of livestockproduction through innovative specialty feed ingredients, has announced theresults of a yearlong study that confirms the role of Specialty FeedIngredients (SFIs) in reducing the environmental impact of livestockproduction.Launched by the International Feed Industry Federation(IFIF) and the E.U. Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and theirMixtures (FEFANA) in 2013, the overall results of the study show that the useof SFIs in animal diets reduces the consumption of basic feed ingredients.
