A new year brings new opportunities and excitement, and 2023 is bound to be the same, with several chances for advancing policy issues of importance to the U.S. animal food industry. We will have our fair share of issues to deal with and one thing is for certain, the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) is working on these and will continue to make progress.

We know ongoing issues with the U.S. supply chain — at our ports, on railways, river and surface transportation systems — are impacting manufacturers’ ability to deliver animal food to their customers and the availability of ingredients. The global shift that has occurred in grain and fertilizer supplies due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, higher energy costs and inflation are increasing pressure throughout the marketplace. It is expected that these issues will continue to lead to market volatility going into 2023 and require continued attention. AFIA is working to seek solutions that can ease the regulatory burdens on animal food manufacturers and provide efficiency and predictability in the systems to allow our businesses to operate throughout these challenges.
