As 2023 gets underway, it’s important to discuss the prevailing trends expected to shape the pet food industry’s year. According to experts, much of the discussions had in 2022 will continue, particularly when it comes to the evolving of sustainability’s place in pet food as well as the larger trend of nutrition capturing pet owners’ interests as they take care of their animals.

“Sustainability is increasingly top-of-mind with today’s pet parents,” said Jorge Martínez, president for ADM Pet Nutrition, which provides pet nutrition solutions to its clients. “Consumers want confidence that [their] choices align with their values, and we see strong demand for products that are not only better for pets but also better for the planet. The concept of modern pet parenting is evolving, and discerning consumers [also] increasingly seek products that provide comprehensive benefits to support their pet’s physical and emotional well-being. In addition to meeting pets’ nutritional requirements, pet owners are committed to supporting emotional wellness with indulgent treats and tasty food toppers that boost appeal.”
