Royal DSM, a global science company in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living, has announced the appointment of Carlos Saviani as Global Sustainability Lead for Animal Nutrition and Health. Saviani will play a key role in the further development and rollout of the company’s animal nutrition purpose-led sustainability strategy. He will focus on engagement with customers and associated stakeholders in the global animal protein value chain.
David Nickell, Vice President for Sustainability, Animal Nutrition and Health said, “I am pleased to welcome Carlos to our DSM Animal Nutrition and Health team. We have a growing pipeline of projects and are excited to have a new team member of Carlos’ caliber join as we continue to drive our purpose-led sustainability strategy.”
Based on expertise in human and animal nutrition, as well as environmental science, DSM enables sustainability in proteins: from plant-based proteins to meat, dairy, eggs and fish. This includes a focus on key challenges such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and limiting nitrogen and phosphorous residues, while keeping the highest nutritious standards and ensuring good livelihoods.
Saviani said, “DSM’s Animal Nutrition and Health is achieving great success in driving the organization’s purpose-led agenda. With the growing demand for animal proteins and the growing need to improve its sustainability, I am proud to join an organisation that places a key focus on sustainable animal production through innovative nutritional solutions and technologies.”
Prior to joining DSM, Saviani served as Vice President of the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Food Sustainability team, and led the organisation’s efforts to promote the adoption and implementation of sustainability for meats, seafood and dairy products by large influential companies across the animal protein value chain.
Carlos Saviani has over 26 years of professional experience in different aspects of the global livestock value chain, from managing a beef ranch to holding roles in organisations such as Genus ABS, Zoetis/Pfizer Animal Health and Merial/Sanofi. He has also sat on the boards of the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef and DSM’s sustainability partner, the International Egg Foundation.
