Sudan sugar producer exporting animal feedstock to Arab Gulf

Sudan sugar producer Kenana has plans to begin exporting up to 50,000 metric tons of animal feedstock annually to Arab Gulf countries, according to reports. The company produces around 100,000 metric tons of feed per year for the local market, but Kenana wants to switch 50 percent of that to exports.

The company produces around 100,000 metric tons of feed per year for the local market, but Kenana wants to switch 50 percent of that to exports. â€ťWe have a plan to export animal feed maybe to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait — Arab countries,” said El Zein Mohamed Doush, general manager of the sugar business.

The company is mainly owned by the governments of Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. It has plans to more than double its annual sugar output to 1 million metric tons by 2015 and expand its byproducts, such as biofuel and animal feed.
