The Daily Herald's Steve Zalusky reported on a development in the legal saga between Prestige Feed Products, an animal feed plant and the village of Mount Prospect, Illinois. Prestige Feed Products has announced plans to relocate its operations within the next six months. This development comes after more than a year of litigation stemming from neighbors' complaints about odors emanating from the facility.
Mount Prospect Village Manager Michael Cassady revealed the news in an email to plant neighbors following a recent court hearing. During the proceedings, Prestige's attorney stated that the company's relocation would likely render most, if not all, claims in the current lawsuit moot.
Cook County Judge Thomas More Donnelly has set several deadlines within the six-month timeframe. If Prestige fails to relocate or if the parties cannot reach an agreement, a jury trial is scheduled for September 22.
While the exact location of Prestige's new facility remains undisclosed, this move marks a potential end to a contentious chapter in local environmental and legal history. The village maintains its commitment to enforcing ordinances and addressing quality of life concerns for its residents as the relocation process unfolds.
