Feed plant settles odor lawsuit for $900K

Mount Prospect, Illinois, residents complained for years about smells from Prestige Feed Products facility that processed cheese materials.

The Daily Herald's Steve Zalusky reported that the ongoing legal battle between Prestige Feed Products and the neighbors who complained about odors from the company’s Mount Prospect, Illinois, animal feed plant might finally be at an end. The feed company will pay the residents a $900,000 settlement.

Residents endured more than six years of persistent burnt cheese odors, filing over 1,600 complaints since the business opened in 2019. The facility dehydrated raw cheese and soy materials to produce animal feed ingredients.

Prestige was forced to cease operations by Dec. 31, 2025, following a separate settlement with Mount Prospect and Des Plaines. Property owners within a half-mile have until June 20 to submit settlement claims. Cook County circuit court will consider approval July 21.
