As summer approaches in the Northern Hemisphere and the mosquitoes begin to bite, you might wonder what these little pests are good for. According to a new study, they might be a good alternative protein source for broiler feed.
In the pilot study, conducted in Greece and published in the Journal of Economic Entomology, 10% of a soybean meal-based diet was replaced by heat-treated, freeze-dried adult mosquitoes harvested from rice fields, with the objective of assessing the effect of the diet on meat quality and consumer acceptance.
