Lohmann Animal Health signs contracts with Taiwan research institutes
Lohmann Animal Health has signed long-term cooperation contracts with Taiwan research institutes in order to expand its global business activities and compound product portfolio on an international scale. These agreements include the foundation of a new subsidiary, Lohmann Animal Health Pingtung, and the planned building of a GMP facility for vaccine production in the Pingtung Agricultural Biotechnology Park, according to the company.

Hubbard Feeds has announced a voluntary recall of one lot of Hubbard Life Homestead Fastgrow AM .0125 NAP/NAB Medicated poultry feed because of elevated calcium and phosphorus levels, which may be harmful to chickens and turkeys. Chickens and turkeys exposed to this product may exhibit decreased feed intake, decreased growth rate or death.

Growers must stay on top of mycotoxin risks
While conditions so far this season have not had a big impact on mycotoxin risk scores because the two biggest factors are rainfall during flowering and rainfall at harvest, the late season may affect T3 applications and growers should remain on top of potential risks, according to Dr. Simon Oxley, senior research and knowledge transfer manager with the Home Grown Cereals Authority in the UK.

Mycotoxicology Society calls for World Mycotoxins Day
The president of the Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria, Dr. Olusegun Atanda, has called for the United Nations to declare a World Mycotoxins Day to spread awareness of the dangers posed by mycotoxins to food safety and public health. In particular, he said, there is a need to create more awareness on aflatoxins.

Global Feed & Food Congress opened by global industry leaders
The Fourth Global Feed & Food Congress, organized by the International Feed Industry Federation with technical support by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, was officially opened April 10 in Sun City, South Africa. This is the first time the Congress has been held in Africa.

New university feed mills to help industry find solutions
A wave of feed mill construction is underway at universities around the country. Auburn University officially opened its new feed mill in November 2012, Kansas State University expects to complete construction of its new mill in late April, and the University of California at Davis hopes to begin work on a new mill early in the fall of 2013.

One-third of Serbian corn, 50,000 tons, held by the Commodity Reserves Agency has been contaminated by aflatoxins and temporarily sealed off until it can be treated,according to reports.

Contaminated animal feed from Serbia found in the Netherlands
Contaminated animal feed from Serbia has been found on five pig farms in the Netherlands, according to food safety body NVWA, with three other farms affected from contaminated Romanian feed. The feed contains corn contaminated with aflatoxin and was first discovered in Germany on March 1, where 6,500 farms are thought to be involved.

Serbia corn imports up on aflatoxin contamination
Serbia is anticipating an increase in corn imports due to food safety concerns after an aflatoxin contamination in the country's corn spread to its milk supply. Serbia exported 2.3 million metric tons of the grain in 2011–2012, but the country's exports are seen falling 83 percent year-on-year to 400,000 metric tons in 2012–2013, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
