Milling company expands with animal feed facility
Belstra Milling Co. is expanding with a $2.5 million expansion to its animal feed production facility. The renovation project will focus on creating more efficient mill stock and grain receiving, increased storage and processing capacity, improved external and internal traffic flows and greater warehouse space, according to the company.

Tongwei expanding with feed plant in Vietnam
Tongwei Group is expanding with a new feed plant in Hai Duong, Vietnam. The $10 million plant will be the company's third facility opened in Vietnam, adding to Yue Hua Tongwei and Vietnam Tongwei, built in 2007 and 2009.

Archer Daniels Midland acquires animal feed manufacturer
Archer Daniels Midland Company has announced the acquisition of English River Pellets Inc., an Iowa-based grain elevator and animal feed manufacturing business. The animal feed portion of English River Pellets’ business will be operated by ADM Alliance Nutrition Inc.

Cargill joins venture to expand grain elevator
Cargill Inc. and Agrex Inc. have entered a 50-50 joint venture to expand an Indiana grain elevator at a cost of $20 million, according to reports. The expansion will triple the unloading and warehouse capacity for corn, soybeans and wheat being handled by the elevator.

South Korea to expand overseas corn, wheat farming
South Korea is making plans to secure 380,000 hectares of overseas farmland by 2018 in order to grow crops like corn and wheat and secure a more stable food supply as prices continue to rise, according to the country's agriculture ministry. The government plans to help South Korean companies lease arable land or buy stakes in overseas firms, prioritizing in countries such as the Philippines, Cambodia, Ukraine, Indonesia and Russia.

Animal feed factory and machine manufacturer Amandus Kahl's crown expander was the gold award winner at the 2011 Victam Innovation Awards in Cologne, Germany. There were 22 entries for this year’s innovation awards, with Swiss manufacturer Buhler and European Machine Trading winning the silver and bronze awards.

China to limit use of grains in non-feed projects
China is making plans to limit the use of grains and edible oils in non-animal-feed projects to secure the country's grain supplies, according to a report by China's top economic planner. Corn is a particular focus, as ethanol, starch and sweeteners consume roughly one-third of China's corn output, leading to concerns about shortages for feed millers.

US corn consumption raises concerns
Current consumption of U.S. corn and soybeans is a great deal higher than industry analysts expected, according to Tim Brusnahan, vice president of Brock and Associates, speaking at the recent WATT Online Animal Forum: Feeding the Globe. Feed mill managers discuss Food Safety Modernization Act at feed mill forum
Vice President of Feed Regulation and Nutrition for the American Feed Industry Association Richard Sellers addressed feed mill managers at a recent seminar, focusing on the Food Safety Modernization Act and its ramifications on the industry. During the event, sponsored by the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association’s Poultry & Egg Institute, Sellers said that the industry is experiencing some of the most significant changes in the Food and Drug Administration's regulation of feed since 1958.
