Skretting, a Nutreco company that specializes in fish and shrimp feeds, has been granted a permit for production of up to 450,000 tons of feed per year at its feed mill in Averøy, Norway.
The facility, which is the largest fish feed plant in the world, reopened in 2013 after an investment of NOK600 million (US$100 million) over two years. The expansion included the installation of a new aquafeed extruder, which allows the mill to increase capacity by 50 percent.
The mill’s plant manager, Jorulv Søbstab, said the plant can produce 400,000 tons of feed this year, and in 2015 may produce 450,000 tons.
