The Daily Herald's Steve Zalusky reported that Prestige Feed Products ceased manufacturing operations at its Mount Prospect, Illinois, facility. The company was forced to end operations by December 31, 2025, following a settlement with the Village of Mount Prospect and the City of Des Plaines that resolves years of disputes over odor complaints. The agreement also limits Prestige’s manufacturing hours to nighttime shifts Monday through Friday and Sunday nights, with no weekend operations after Friday morning.

The settlement brings relief to neighbors who endured more than six years of persistent burnt cheese odors, prompting over 1,600 complaints. Mount Prospect Village Manager Michael Cassady highlighted that the agreement avoids costly litigation, provides a clear end date, and allows Prestige to plan its next steps. Des Plaines Mayor Andrew Goczkowski praised the collaboration between the municipalities to protect residents’ quality of life.

Prestige’s final manufacturing shift will begin at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve and conclude at 7 a.m. Christmas morning. Following the shutdown, the company will dismantle and relocate equipment over several weeks but will maintain administrative functions at the site.

Despite halting production, Prestige remains involved in ongoing litigation, including a lawsuit by the Illinois attorney general and a class-action suit from neighbors, with a hearing scheduled for January 26.
