Phytases have been shown to reduce the anti-nutrient effects of phytate in animal diets by degrading it, thereby, increasing the availability of energy and amino acids and providing the potential for phytases to further reduce the cost of feed.

Korean imports of U.S. distiller's dried grains with solubles (DDGS) have increased more than 100 percent with continued growth potential as Korean nutritionists gain confidence in utilizing DDGS in swine rations. The U.S. Grains Council hosted a webinar the week of November 3 aimed at feed formulators, swine extension specialists and pork producers, giving the council a longer reach into the Korean swine industry and enabling local partners to share information more broadly among industry colleagues.

The comments are AFIA and NGFA's recommendation to assist the FDA in providing important information in making informed decisions on the correct ingredient approval path to pursue and to assist the industry in properly submitting a Food Additive Petition (FAP) for animal feed ingredients.

CVM clarifies use of three approved animal drugs in feed
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is explaining how the approved animal drugs melengestrol acetate, monensin and tylosin can be combined in animal feed. Melengestrol acetate-monensin-tylosin and melengestrol acetate-monensin combinations are fed to heifers in confinement for slaughter for several approved indications, as listed in the Code of Federal Regulations.
