In April 2015, Alltech announced its plans to acquire Ridley Inc., one of the largest commercial animal nutrition businesses in North America. The deal was completed in June.
The combined company has a presence in more than 128 countries and 4,200 employees worldwide. Alltech has more than doubled its sales in the past three years and is on target to achieve $4 billion in sales in the next few years.
Alltech has established a track record of successful acquisitions. At the time of the Ridley deal, it had completed seven since 2011. It has completed three other acquisitions since.
In July, Alltech expanded its European operations with acquisitions in the Norwegian cities of Førde and Bergen with Produs AS and Produs Aqua AS, both family-owned and -operated with extensive experience in the Norwegian agriculture and aqua industries.
Alltech said the deals will mean continued innovative, customized and quality products, programs, services and on-farm consultation for customers in Norway, both on land and at sea. In addition, it will be supported by Alltech’s global and local team of scientists, nutritionists and marketing experts. The combined strengths of the companies will deliver the latest nutritional technologies to Norwegian producers, enabling them to become more efficient, sustainable and profitable.
And, this month, Alltech and Masterfeeds said they have entered into a share purchase, under which Alltech will acquire 100 percent of the outstanding shares of Masterfeeds Inc., from Ag Processing Inc. (AGP). This will provide Alltech complete ownership of Masterfeeds LP, a leading commercial animal nutrition company in Canada.
Masterfeeds further strengthens Alltech’s presence in Canada by creating one of the country’s largest animal nutrition offerings. Alltech, Masterfeeds and EMF Nutrition, another Alltech-owned Canadian company, employ approximately 700 Canadians, operating 25 feed manufacturing and premix facilities, nine retail locations and seven distribution centers in a business spanning the entire country.
Also in 2015, Alltech acquired The E-CO2 Project Limited (E-CO2) – a leading provider of on-farm environmental assessments and programs – to strengthen its service offering to livestock producers. This deal was announced in February.
