Germany’s pig population stable while farm numbers fall

Fewer of the nation’s farms are keeping pigs, and the number of finishing hogs is down sharply as many producers are making a significant loss on each animal sold.

At the latest count, the German pig population was approximately 21 million.

This is according to the federal statistics office, Destatis, and covers the provisional results of its May 3 survey.
