The European Union’s (EU) deforestation rule, once a cornerstone of its environmental protection agenda, may face new challenges after policy shifts under the new U.S. administration. This regulation aims to curb imports of products linked to deforestation, such as soy, palm oil and beef, in an effort to combat climate change and biodiversity loss. However, with changing global political priorities, the EU has already found itself at a crossroads: It has postponed enforcement of this rule by a year.
