IFIF joins Feed Schemes Observatory to create benchmark system for feed safety assurance schemes

The International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) has joined as a partner in the Feed Schemes Observatory (FSO), a global initiative between the feed industry, Feed Assurance Schemes and the International Trade Center, which aims to create an independent, transparent and impartial benchmark system for feed safety assurance schemes. "We are delighted to join as a partner of the FSO, and to contribute to creating a benchmark system for feed safety assurance schemes for the global feed chain, as well as to build bridges of communication within the value chain and with regulators," said Alexandra de Athayde, IFIF executive director.

Cargill conducts voluntary recall of select poultry feed

Cargill's animal nutrition business has announced a voluntary recall of two of its Nutrena NatureWise poultry feeds due to incorrect levels of calcium. The affected products were manufactured at Cargill's facilities in Flora, Ill., Oklahoma City, Okla., Abilene, Texas, and Mineola, Texas, between May 1, 2013 and Nov. 21, 2013.

NWF Group acquires SC Feeds

NWF Group, a specialist agricultural and distribution business, has acquired the entire issued share capital of SC Feeds Ltd, an animal feed manufacturer based in Staffordshire, for up to £6.75 million on a cash-free, debt-free basis. This price comprised an initial consideration of £6 million in cash, which would be satisfied from NWF's existing banking facilities, and up to £0.75 million to be satisfied by the issue of new ordinary shares.

Association of Veterinary Consultants raises concerns on EFSA’s proposals to address Bacillus safety

The Association of Veterinary Consultants (AVC) has joined the public debate launched by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on how best to assess the safety ofBacillus strains used in the EU food chain. The AVC said that the same Bacillus strains may be used as human food and animal feed supplements, and that EU member states increasingly look to the EFSA for guidance on issues common to food and feed, driven by food-feed hygiene and other EU regulations.

Demand for US soybean meal in animal feed grows

U.S. animal agriculture's consumption of U.S. soybean meal increased by 1 million tons, or the meal from 42 million bushels of soybeans, in the 2011-2012 marketing year, according to a soy-checkoff-funded report. This is good news for soybean farmers since domestic animal agriculture uses about 97 percent of the U.S. soybean meal consumed in the U.S.

New phytase production plant strengthens AB Vista’s global position

In cooperation with its sister company within ABF, PGP International, AB Vista has supported the opening of a new production facility in Evansville, Ind., which will see a significant increase in the global production capacity for Quantum Blue 5G phytase feed enzyme.
