Global grain use, production estimated up for 2013/2014

Projected global 2013/2014 corn use has been increased 100 million bushels in December, split evenly between fuel ethanol and exports, according to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture feed outlook. Margins have been very favorable for ethanol mills, with higher ethanol and distillers' dried grains prices on the revenue side combined with lower corn prices on the input side.

US poultry producers announce strong support for ‘Corn Ethanol Mandate Elimination Act’

TheNational Turkey Federation and National Chicken Council, with a coalition ofpoultry and livestock groups, announced their support for the “Corn EthanolMandate Elimination Act” which was introduced December 12 by Senators DianeFeinstein, D-Calif., Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and Kay Hagan, D-NC. In acoalition letter urging each member of the U.S. Senate to commit support ascosponsors, the bipartisan legislation was hailed as a simple, effectivesolution to the problems caused by corn diverted to ethanol, driving up feedcosts and consumer prices for meat.

International Grains Council releases five-year supply and demand projections

The International Grains Council (IGC) has released its five-year global supply and demand projections, saying that world total grains output is expected to decline slightly in 2014/2015, but then will rise again by an average of 1.6 percent each year over the remainder of the five-year period. Output is estimated to exceed 2 billion tons by 2016/2017.

Cobb-Vantress to open Kentucky feed mill

Cobb-Vantress Inc. is constructing a new feed mill in Albany in south central Kentucky, to supply its expanding operations in both Kentucky and Tennessee. The mill, projected to cost US$15 million, is the latest investment in a region where Cobb has invested more than $36 million over the past three years including a new hatchery at Lafayette, Tenn., and a new pedigree research and development complex at Deer Lodge, Tenn.
