US corn crop 95 percent planted, soybeans 78 percent

U.S. farmers have planted 95 percent of their corn crop and 78 percent of soybeans, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) recent crop progress report.Texas is the first state to report 100 percent of its corn plantings completed, with Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska reporting 99 percent, Illinois at 98 percent and Indiana at 95 percent.

Skretting increases production at aquafeed facility in Norway

Skretting, a Nutreco company that specializes in fish and shrimp feeds, has been granted a permit for production of up to 450,000 tons of feed per year at its feed mill in Averøy, Norway.The facility, which is the largest fish feed plant in the world, reopened in 2013 after an investment of NOK600 million (US$100 million) over two years.

Kemin earned the Innovation Award in the animal health and nutrition category for its Lipid Evaluation Test at VIV Europe, an international trade show for animal husbandry and processing, May 22 in Utrecht, Netherlands.Kemin was one of four exhibitors selected for the award among 40 innovations showcased.
