A recent study finds that construction of a new animal feed research and production facility could begin this fall in Hilo, Hawaii.The Feed Research and Pilot Production Facility, which would develop feed for aquaculture and terrestrial animals, is being developed by the Oceanic Institute of Hawaii Pacific University with state and federal funding.

Distiller’s dried grains with solubles exports to China threatened

Exporters recently were rocked by reports that China may suspend the issuance of new import permits for U.S. distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS), and subject currently permitted imports to more stringent testing for the presence of unapproved biotech events.While no official statement from the government in China has been forthcoming, the resulting uncertainty is roiling trade in what is currently the largest U.S. DDGS export market.

Alltech builds algae plant, expands production in Latin America

Within the framework of an expansion strategy for the Latin American region, Alltech began construction this week on an algae production plant on the same premises as Alltech Sao Pedro, the largest yeast plant for animal nutrition in the world. This new $63 million investment in Brazil will generate more than 200 direct and indirect jobs, and it will increase Alltech’s Latin America production by 58 percent.
