Severe PRRS infection kills pig immune cells, study finds

Developing drugs that block the viral signals that kill the cells could limit the severity of the disease, researcher says.

Previously undiscovered signaling molecules could explain why some strains of the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus cause more severe disease than others — and could open the door to new drugs to treat or prevent the disease, according to new research from South Korea.
