Survey finds dry UK harvest delivering good quality
Dry conditions at harvest have resulted in some of the highest Hagbergs recorded in the past few years in the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board/Home Grown Cereals Authority (AHDB/HGCA) Cereal Quality Survey estimates released September 9.Overall, Great Britain wheat quality analyzed so far by AHDB/HGCA, from 17,720 samples collected up to August 30, shows large improvements on the 2012 crop, with average Hagbergs of 334 seconds and an average specific weight of 77.8 kilograms per hectoliter.

Cargill sells feed mill in Pennsylvania to Risser Grain
Cargill on August 30 closed on the sale of its feed mill and grain elevator in Martinsburg, Pa., to Holtwood, Pa.-based Risser Grain LLC. Under the terms of the agreement, Risser Grain is acquiring the property and assets such as machinery and equipment.

US Grains Council elects Iowa corn, soybean producer as chairman
Julius Schaaf was elected chairman of the U.S. Grains Council during the council's 53rd annual board of delegates meeting in Ottawa, Canada, and elected a new slate for its board of directors.Schaaf is a fifth generation farmer from Randolph, Iowa, with more than 33 years of experience in production agriculture. He farms a corn, soybean rotation.

Survey finds decrease in UK cereals, oilseed harvest area
The total cereals and oilseeds harvest area in Great Britain fell to 3.68 million acres, a 4 percent decrease from 2012, according to the 2013 Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board/Home Grown Cereals Authority Planting and Variety Survey published July 22. The survey is based on responses from 3,473 growers for May, June and July 2013.

Morocco lifts restrictions on feed wheat imports
British Cereal Exports, the export hand of the United Kingdom's Home Grown Cereal Authority, has been working with Moroccan government officials to lift its restrictions on feed wheat imports, opening up a new potential market worth an estimated UK$9.6 million a year. The decision comes as the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture and the state buying agency ONICL have confirmed that the restrictions on feed wheat imports have been lifted, allowing imports to meet compounders' annual demand of 60,000 tons.
