T Elam Hi Res Head Shot

Dr. Thomas Elam earned master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics at the University of Tennessee. He is also a graduate of the American Marketing Association Executive Strategic Planning course. Dr. Elam is also a member of Sigma Xi, a scientific research society, and Gamma Sigma Delta, the agriculture honorary research society. Dr. Elam has been working in the area of grain and livestock economics for more tha 35 years. His professional career spans service to the University of Illinois, the Economic Research Service of USDA and Elanco Animal Health. In a 24-year career at Elanco, Dr. Elam was primarily engaged in global market research and strategic business planning. As a result of that experience, he has broad capabilities in the areas of agricultural price outlook, agricultural production, food marketing and animal health economics. After retirement from Elanco in 2003, Dr. Elam has continued his career by founding his own company, FarmEcon.

Carl Heeder Background

Dr. Carl Heeder has more than 25 years of experience in the poultry industry. He received a BS in Poultry Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his DVM at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Heeder’s career has spanned all segments of the U.S. industries, commercial egg, turkey and broiler production. Most of his career has been spent in working for integrators in either production management or technical support. He currently is the Senior Director of Avian Health and Nutrition at Mountaire Farms. Mountaire Farms is a top 10 U.S. broiler company, processing 46 million pounds a week in 2018 across three complexes.

Steve Kitt

Dr. Steve Kitt was raised on a diversified livestock and grain farm in western Iowa. He received his undergraduate degree in Animal Science from the Iowa State University in 1997, MS in Animal Nutrition from University of Nebraska in 1999, and Ph.D. in Swine Nutrition from University of Nebraska in 2002. He worked in the U.S. feed industry as a Technical Service Nutritionist for more than 8 years with two nutrition companies, 8 years as nutritionist for a Nebraska farrow-to-finish system comprised of 55,000 commercial sows and upwards of 5,000 nucleus sows. In this position, he was responsible for research and development, nutritional services and production monitoring for 60,000 sows farrow to finish. In 2018, he joined First Choice Livestock, a nutrition and production consulting firm that works with all sizes of pork producers offering nutritional services and products to maximize productivity and profitability based on sound science and nutritional principles. He lives in Columbus, Nebraska, with his wife and three children.
